Open Match Review
Heronbrook
3rd June 2003.
The match was to be a five hour affair, starting at 1pm and finishing at 6pm so with everyone present the draw was made at 12 o'clock. Pegging was made by Neil and with only 12 anglers present each was to have plenty of room. The weather was in the main up and down with sunshine one minute and cloud the next and to say it was windy is an understatement! Ask Jona as his pole crashed off the roller with his sixth section snapping clean in half! This didn't deter him though as he had a spare with him. "If it had been any other then it would have been painful." He was heard to say. Painful, a number 6 section, more like an amputation. These Lerc poles ain't cheap are they!
Anyway off we trot to our various pegs and I shout the all in. Everyone had a plan of some sorts as to what they were going to do. Stu Harper being a venue regular was to fish floating bread all day. See another thing about the venue is its rules. Only two, maximum size 10 hook and no pellets of any description and that's it. Everything else is game on. So whether your a lover of it or not, floating bread has it's place at Heronbrook and effective it can be as well. When you can hear those big carp slurping on top of the far shelf you can understand why.
The five hours pass without to many mishaps and even Wayne managed to stay on his box and out of the water for a change. Last year when we were there he had fallen in having partaken in one or two cans of Carling, good job I was driving that day!
Final whistle or in my case shout came and it was time for the weigh in. Only problem being was that Neil had forgotten his weighing net and had to make a makeshift one out of an old keepnet. Not photogenic at all! So here are a few more pics of the anglers and part of their catch.
Just leaves me to say thanks to all for supporting the event and I look forward to meeting more of you next time.
