T/A - Force baits
Pairs Match
Horns Pool.
Saturday 30th May 2004.
Everyone was looking forward to this match with great expectation. Horns pool, Slitting Mill, Rugeley was the setting for the 2004 pairs match. Places were at a premium as there was only 27 pegs on the pool and out of those only 25 were fishable. The venue had been throwing up some good weights on the build up to the match with evening matches of 3 hrs being won with 30lb +
As usual our intrepid sponsor was there in the shape of Steve Lile (Polemaster) to reward the lucky contestants with a range of Force baits products, contestants who had travelled the length and breadth of the country. Paul Scattergood (Scatty) and BobbyG, from Merseyside, Neil Mac (Polepot) from Manchester, fred and JamesT from the London area, MartynH from Gloucester way, Malc the Jinx put in an appearance from sunny Wales (having paid £4 to use the M6 Toll) and the 2003 champions manicmiller and son appearing from Rotherham. It is good to see events like this pulling anglers together from around the country.
Anyway the day got off to a very good start with a hearty breakfast being consumed, by the majority, at the Horns public house. Following this scatty collected the pools money and Stu set about sorting the draw. Firstly each angler drew a peg and then the pegs went back into the bag for a random draw to sort out partners for the day.
Everyone made their way to the pegs and decided upon a plan of attack, even JamesT. However half way through the match he changed course and decided to fish for that well known scarce specie of Horns pool, the 'PIKE'. Out went the pike bung time and time again with a good helping of groundbait around the base to help bring those wary pike to his boilie bait. Unfortunately for James the pike proved to evasive and so he turned his attention to catching a few silvers.
The Jinx was in fine form as usual. Ask the anglers near to him!
But the surprise of the day was local lad and horns pool regular visitor, Dorsal winning the match. But what was even more surprising was the fact he caught on that well publicised horns bait, CAT FOOD! The bait that he had omitted to tell everyone he would fish with. Well I think he has had his leg pulled enough since then so that's the end of that.
Not many fish were caught on the day but everyone had a tremendous time and for some a long drive home. For others a few beers were consumed along with a post mortem, again at the Horns Pub.
Below is a breakdown of the results of the day with some presentation pictures. It just leaves me to say a big thank you to everyone for supporting the event.
