Open Match Review

Woodland View
19th July 2003.

Sixteen anglers including myself booked into this last TA outing. I had fished the venue some 10 days before on an emergency services match and found that Ghost pool had fished particularly well, and with less that 20 anglers fishing this event the numbers were suited for this pool.

It had been decided to make the draw 9.30am to allow  time for any travelling anglers to reach us without having to get up too early, this would also allow for the regular Saturday open to be drawn and the anglers out the way, letting us get on with what we had to do.

Being as we had sixteen booked in, the even number made things a little easier in planning the pegging. Needless to say we had eight anglers on each bank, allowing for an even section split.

The draw was made and off everyone went to their respective pegs in anticipation of the 10.45am start.

A section bank and B section bank on Ghost Pool

A bit of banter was beginning to fly around the pool prior to the start and everyone was beginning to settle down for a good match. The weather was warm and over cast with a strong wind (at times) blowing into the bank of B section and a lot of fish was expected to be caught.

The all in came and out went the anglers feed. Usually a fish is immediately in the net at the first chuck but strangely enough on this day it didn't happen. However after about 10 minutes into the match one or two anglers began to catch and things began to look up. Carpmagic was opposite me on peg 16 and I could see that he was struggling at the off taking one or two silver fish. Clive Nixon on peg 15, was slowly putting carp in the net and seemed to be making head way on Steve. Likewise Chris Taylor on peg 8 on A section seemed to be having a fish a chuck and he seemed to be the man to catch. Polepot on peg 18 was beginning to have his string pulled a bit more than most on that bank and things were hotting up. However my prediction of some 'tons' coming from the water seemed a little way off mark! That's fishing for you.

Just over two hours into the event and our resident news man, Terry Comerford arrived on the scene to take some photos for us and did a splendid job. (By the way photos are available from Terry for you to admire at a moderate cost, Email him for details.)

Shortly after his arrival however, carpmagic began to work his 'magic' and was beginning to put a few fish together. Now whether him catching was a coincidence or not I don't know, but Steve knows how to perform for the camera and Terry got some action shots!
