| After a night out on the town, we were again tucking into a hearty breakfast. Apart from Dave that is who, previous to the trip, was a relative tea totaler. He now had taken a liking to Bacardi Breezer. Needless to say a full English appeared too much for him. Unlike Wayne who, I'm sure can eat for England, devoured everything in sight including Tony's breakie as he hadn't appeared from his bed.
Following breakfast the minibus was loaded and we headed off to Gwinear for the Sunday morning open. We had heard that on previous matches cat food had out performed corn and meat, so we stopped at the local convenience store to acquire a couple of tins.
Forty- one anglers were booked onto the venue and we were all looking forward to the days fishing because sport can be frantic with some very big carp in Windsor lake. Entry money paid, rules read and into the draw bag.
Sidewinder peg 2, Dave peg 14, Wayne peg 19, Rich peg 28 and yours truly peg 29. Tony had decided not to fish (too many lagers!...Ed) and off we went.
Gwinear
The match kicked off at 11.15. I fed two large pots of corn, placed a small piece of meat on the hook and was into a nice fish, about 6llb, straight away. Er we go some sport on here to be had! Sat there for the next 90 mins bite less. Rich next to me had one small carp and everyone appeared to be struggling again. Undeterred, kept at it , hooked another fish of about 4llb. Rich had started to catch some smaller fish ranging from 1llb - 2llb and appeared to be edging out in front of everyone.

Eventually I started getting a few more bites but striking into foul hookers, which I was losing, and getting more and more frustrated. Dave was also relatively fish less until the last two hours when his swim came alive on the inside line. Three fish resulted in over 30llb in the net and at the final weigh he had amassed 121-15-0 to win the match, what a last two hours of sport! Wayne was also suffering the same misfortunes as I, with foul hooked fish being lost and had a very respectable 53llb, Rich persevered and finished fourth with 76-13-0, I managed to put together a miserly 18-0-0 and sidewinder 7-0-0.
We spent another night on the town in Newquay to conclude a brilliant weekend, which we hope to make an annual trip in addition to the festivals that the lads attend. I must say that it was only my second time down there, and I'm looking forward to next years venture all ready. If you get the chance visit Whiteacres and chance your hand on the circuit there, it's a great place to be.
