  1. PWL Penultimate Round.

Geary's Level was my rotation for this 9th and penultimate round, a venue always capable of throwing up a few big Carp. I can no longer frame due to some poor and very average results, so my aim was to fish positive for Carp and hope enough have a go to record 40+lbs.

I fancied pegs 31 and 33 which would suit my style and plan, so I was over the moon to pull out 33. My peg looked inviting with lots of colour and a slight over the shoulder breeze. Whilst tackling up I scanned the surface ...

  2. Solihull Angling Silvers League Rd 1

    Venue: Packington - Geary's Level.

I was really looking forward to this short series of just four matches with best three results to count, and coming off the back of a runners up spot last year my confidence was high. However I didn't know what to expect as I haven't fished this lake since November and like most of the lakes here it's been fishing very hard due to the low water temperature's of recent weeks. Today was no different a bitterly cold wind was blowing across the lake ...

  3. PWL Rd 8

My rotation for round 8 sees me on Little Geary's, so an all out attack for F1s assuming I draw the right peg. Before the match I said I wanted peg 29 but would also be happy with 27, 7, 9 and 5. Any other and I would consider going home and back to bed where I'd been for the last 36 hours with Man Flu.

I was almost last to draw and when I pulled out the disc I was delighted to see peg 29 in my hand.......no excuses now I'd drawn sock on and going by recent match results on the midweek ...

  4. PWL Rd 7

That's confirmed it I'm officially mad - I must be to go out both days in this weather.

Yesterday's open match saw just 7 crazy anglers turn up to brave the predicted elements and yes I was one of them, although I nearly turned back home several times before settling down in the warmth of the fishing lodge - the whole idea of venturing out on Saturday was to get some last minute practice on Molands ahead of today's Winter League, however because 97% of Molands was frozen the Seven ...

  5. PWL Round 6

Another sharp overnight frost meant only one thing - breaking ice yet again. Now you followers of my blog's know how I feel about this task, so you can feel the mood I was in - I've just about had enough of this winter already.

So it's the notorious Siblings again for me today, but as my colleagues said "well at least you get it out of the way today".....very true. Peg 5 on the horse shoe was to be my home and what greated me on arrival at the peg certainly had me thinking! ...

  6. Packington Winter League - half way stage.

We are at the halfway stage already and another grueler was on the cards judging by yesterday's open on Molands, made even worse by another sharp drop in temperature freezing over areas that were free of ice on Friday.

Now if there is one thing I dread - its breaking ice, partially because I'm bloody useless at it. If there was a wicket to aim my lump of metal towards, then the umpire would award several wides and I'd probably get selected for down under 😂 So after 30 mins ...

  7. Packington Winter League Rd 4

Firstly let me start by saying how I wasn't looking forward to this round as my rotation has me fishing the notorious Siblings pools - great in summer but deadly when the first hard frosts appear. Two pools designed to suit the small angling club and pleasure anglers where pole fishing is the main attack.

So I was hoping for a favoured draw but unfortunately I drew peg 2 on the horse shoe (Sibs A). With water crystal clear despite the gaffers attempt to cloud the water with a chemical ...

  8. Packington Winter League Rd 3

I was really looking forward to this 3rd round as I had to sit at home for rounds 1 and 2 on bed rest following my heart stent fitment last month. So I'd like to thank the two Anglers who stood in for me and recorded mid section scores. Thanks go to Pete Murray and Matt ?.

My rotation draw today was the high numbers on Molands and following a short practice on Friday I knew it was going to be hard going due to the recent cold snaps and frosts. So when I drew peg 43 I wasn't too sure ...

  9. Final round - Silvers

Well I had to settle for second overall 😊 as I could only muster half the weight I needed and got bashed up off the peg to my right by Dave Stretch Armstrong 24.14.0.

I had 12.2.0 - and struggled throughout the match trying to combat the strong wind and heavy tow. Gambled on the big skimmers coming in close to any of my Three 6 metre lines - thought the Corn and Meat might do some damage today but wasn't to be.

  10. Solihull angling silvers mini series

    Hi Guys

In the final winter league blog I made reference to this 4 match series and how I spent most the match watching Danny catch skimmers because I had a very important 3rd round the following week. After two rounds I was sitting top of the pile on weight advantage something that I'm not use too. With 3 from 4 to count one more section win would maybe do it if my only rival didn't match my scores over the last two rounds.
