30th June 2007 at Tunnel Barn Farm Top Pool Jinx match 2
This match was to be my 1st jinx match as a full paid up Jinx member rather than watching or guesting

Weather didn’t look promising- rain, rain and more rain. 1 thing I hate is fishing in the rain! So as you would imagine I wasn’t really looking forward to it as it rained non-stop from the trip from Wales to Shrewly.
I wasn’t organised in the slightest for this match (take after my dad for that!). Just the evening before I thought I ort to open my box to see if there were any un-ruley smells, seeing as it hadn’t been opened in over a month! Touch wood it wasn’t too bad! So I shut the box and went to bed
Dai kindly picked us up at 9am along with Mitch and we made the trip to Shrewly with the help of TomTom. We arrived with about 20mins till the draw was due. Lake was pegged, monies collected and draw was made.
I was a few of pegs away from Dad and a short walk. So I took my gear to my peg in a couple of trips! We had a slight panic which was soon sorted out by the kind people in the Jinx Series.

Me/Dad had left all our nets at home!

Soon sorted out by borrowing some. These guys aren’t just any fishermen…. They are good friends too. Cheers guys your all great!
I drew peg 4 which put me between Keith Ashby and Nick Jones. From my peg I could see, Keith, Nick, Dave M, Paul, and SimpleSimon.
I set up 2 lines, straight in front and the margin to my left. I had abit of a bay to my left so I fished at the edge of that in the middle. Ok that probably doesn’t make sense but it did if you saw my peg!
My fishing was quite patchy at times, I was fed up with the rain and couldn’t focus and concentrate properly. Constantly all day the people I could see were catching- at a much better rate than myself!
At one point I was ready to give up but I thought no because I want some names added to my Minxed list! That thought in its self was enough to keep at it! Plus I had 3 pound coins bets.
I had visions of me being last! That was until I went to see dad to see if he had any corn I could use as I was catching mine on maggot. Dad had only had a handful of fish. that’s when I thought to myself ‘hmmmm this could be my chance to beat Dad!’
I went back to my peg with sweet corn and thought ‘right lets get ready to kick some ass!’ caught a few more (and lost some through foul hooking etc). I had much better bites/fish on the corn in the bay bit so I mostly fished that for the remainder of the match.
I caught mostly F1s yesterday with about 5 silvers, I haven’t been after fish that small for years! I think I’ve got used to the likes of Rolfs where the majority of fish are 8lb+.... I was a bit lost with little 1lb ers! Yes it was nice catching fish- but I kept hoping a bigger one would come along!
Through-out the match Keith next to me was catching very well and went on to win the match- well done Keith. Thanks for keeping me awake at one point talking about domestic stuff
I decided to try my luck with a few pound side bets with Paul, Steve and Mitch. 1 pound came my way from Mitch- welcome to the club!

Steve had a pound go his way. Unfortunately I had to give Paul his pound back.... Which I proudly took from him at Rolfs in May off the next peg

Paul was ever so happy to have his pound back- he was like a kid in a sweet shop! Even gave me a hug!
The day ended up very wet, everybody caught and it was great to see everyone again. Well done to everyone for not giving up yesterday during the rain!
I would just like to shout from the rooftops....
I BEAT MY DAD!!! Wohoooooooooo!
You’ve been Minxed Dad
I never thought I would ever beat many anglers, and beating the likes of Steve, Peter, Dad, makes me well chuffed!

they are all adaptable and consistent anglers. Anything might be possible now!
2 more main chaps to go.... Keith and Matt- I’m gunna get ya!
Before Dad even knew i beat him- he decided to give me a fat lip! I was crouched by Dad, Dad suddenly struck and whacked the pole back catching me clean on the lip! Bit of blood, tingled and the numbness has only just gone!

Dad thought he moved the pole at an angle but it wasnt quite enough!
Anyway....
