The day started bright and cloudy and for Chris Horsley on peg53 it was a blinding start as he was into fish from the whistle and rarely had time to look back and see who was chasing him.
Chris (Fox Match MK) who had returned this week after a long break from the venue, showed he had lost none of his feel for the water and fished pellet over pellet putting a very respectable 76lb 14oz on the scales for his efforts.
Chasing Chris from the off on the next peg 51 was Roy Quayle who fished three lines taking a fish from each swim in turn. This technique kept his fish coming steadily throughout the match but although he had more fish than Chris the stamp was smaller. Despite that, Roy's weight of 64lb 6oz was enough for second spot.
In third place and new to the venue Terry Sanderson (Mill on The Sour) went down a different route after his first dry hour and turned to his pellet waggler finding the fish shallow and running to 4lb. Maybe had he started with his favoured method he might have pipped the front runners, but 52lb 10oz was still good for third.
Section Winners came from opposite ends of the lake with Geoff Eggison on peg33 catching well on paste for 44lb 12oz and Paul Barnett on peg49 for 30lb 7oz.
Total weight of fish weighed in was 464lb 5oz. Additional stockings of Tench are expected before the end of the year which will give anglers more opportunities to catch these hard fighting fish. Watch this space for announcements of Matches on the Venues' Bottom Lake to be held over the winter months where first refusal places will be given to Match Lake regulars.
