Never heard it referred to as a spur bar before Matt but yes they do attach to front legs.
I sometimes end up fumbling about a bit when feeding while holding the pole so was just contemplating adding one of these to my Christmas list as well

What I don't want though is to be carrying more weight to the peg & then not using it.... hence the question.
I don't actually notice that many people using them.. not compared to the Penrose PUPS system when that came out..... chuffing things were everywhere
