Hi macky, i wouldn't spend too much on a rod and fly reel at the beginning, just in case you don't enjoy it. Fly fishing i love doing, however, i prefer to fish the rivers and only get my fly rod out when the river season for coarse fishing ends.

Up in Scotland the fly fishing is big, so i suggest you pop into your local tackle shop and ask them for a cheap set up, also ask them what flies they suggest for the kind of places you will be fly fishing. I'll search out a website for you that does really cheap flies, there are thousands to choose from and can get very confusing. Wet flies, dry flies, nymphs etc.

Last year i filmed a programme up in Scotland in Scourie, fly fishing in some remote Lochs, and the flies we used at that time of year were daddy longlegs. I got told to look in the air to see what flies are about, to know what the fish would go for, (i never saw any) LOL.

Hope you enjoy it, let us know how you get on.
