Default An easy winter walk

With the weather being downright dangerous for any serious fell walking on our planned walking days over the previous couple of months we decided on a more local walk taking in Rivington pike, the winter hill television transmitter and moorland.

A circular route starting at the Rivington Barn through the old Lord Lever's estate , over the moorland to the Winter Hill transmitter and back to the Barn. Total distance 7.5 miles with the ascent an easy 900ft.

When we got a closer look at the transmitter a plaque on the wall said it's height was a very lofty 315m. We were dubious about this as the chimney stack( Wesp) were we all work is 85m and the mast didn't look 3x higher than our work's chimney... Guess we are wrong

Overall a pleasant and easy jaunt. Windy and cold on the moors but the rain kept off. We retired to a local pub for a shandy before getting home approx 3 hours earlier than we would on a ''proper'' walk.

Back to the mountains next time for some proper pain
