I never used to use the roller type especially those free standing ones I found them far too small and a little unstable,

I did however come up with a nice little trick and I have used it for years despite all the P*** taking it works a treat.

It comprised of two adjustable banksticks the thicker type and 5 foot of rod tube, I made a hole in each end of the rod tube with the bank sticks, I done this by warming up the bankstick this made for a real tight fit, I then went on to spray the tube bright pink sad but true, done right you end up with what looks like some rugby posts.

Now on the commercials this method is a dream soft ground etc, Im right handed so I push the bank sticks in the ground at around 4 oclock ( imagine a clock laid flat, your in the middle) you need to get the position just right so the pole is top heavy when broken down so it lies on your thigh, there is nothing worse than the bottom half of your pole going up in the air whilst your unhooking a fish.

This method although a little heath robinson is superb you can't miss it and the pole slides on a rod tube with so much ease also its adjustable height wise, and does no damage to your pole

I will have to dig up a picture of one
