Half the problem is getting the right bread.

Rolling and steaming is ok but not ideal, in the winter we used to prepare this way for the London canals especially when bites where scarce ((it stayed on longer) also it has added advantages of not coming off when fishing it on the waggler.

One of the problems with this method is you can over do it and it wont expand

Another trick was the microwave 15 seconds a slice and it gave you the same properties as steaming

Rive try and get some Mothers Pride it was always the best bread, nice and doughy and the punch itself compresses it enough.

as for hair rigging never tried that
