I feel a bit sorry for the youngsters who start out with a pair of Carp rods, Alarms and a bedchair and think that thats all there is to fishing; and then after a few years they just give up. The days of doing your apprentiship catching fish of all species are fast dissapearing. When I walk along the bank full of bivvies at one of our lakes I often think that if they were asked to catch a few Roach, Bream or Tench on float tackle they wouldn't know where to start; and most of them havent even seen a Barbel (apart from in pictures) and wouldn't know what to do if they hooked one from a weedy river using lighter tackle. Its a shame really.
