3rd Vince Atkinson (Rugby Tackle) Peg17 13lb 6oz Pole/Chop & Caster/Miixed Silvers

A week of strong winds and heavy rain raised the water levels and the waves at Dog Lane, but the conditions on the day gave everyone hope that the venue would respond well. However, such is fishing and the day proved to be one that rewarded those that would stick to a working plan or be prepared to change.

Dave Smart of Castle Angling was one such angler who found that on peg 49 that his best response was to his method feeder line. David watched his fellow anglers who were persistant on the pole struggle to get presentation right for anything but small roach, so decided to persevere on the feeder and was rewarded with 17lb of small carp which together with 4lb of silvers gave him this weeks top spot.

Second overall was Martin Paynter of Dog Lane Fishery, who went with his favourite choppie attack on peg 48 and winkled out 13lb 13½oz of mixed silvers.

Third best weight went to Vince Atkinson of Rugby Tackle who was on peg 17 of the sheltered far bank, where he adopted the same tactics as Martin, but fished tight to the reeds and found roach and perch to 1lb obliging on worm or caster. Vince ended the day only one fish away from taking second place and weighed in a respectable 13lb 6oz.

The rest of the field put between 6lb and 9lb of hard earnt fish to the scales. Despite the conditions and the results the hardy regulars will be back next week in an attempt to turn this weeks fishing match into a catching one.

The draw for next weeks match will be SATURDAY at the Kings Head Pub Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm. (Light permitting)
