I have been looking for a new pole for a few weeks in the 1000 quid range and settled for the preston gxr 2000. Six top kits, extra number four, two pulla kits, cup kit and nice holdall. Was informed that prestons have good after sales dept and good stock levels meanining no long wait for replacements. Also looked at the garbo 796, which was ok but didnt feel as nice as the gxr at any length. You get alot of extras with the garbo, which must be its best selling point as its not really comparable to the preston or the daiwa g8 for the money. The g8 was also very nice and i was very close to ordering one, one less kit than the gxr, both felt nice at 13m, and both lost abit past 14.5. The only thing that swayed it was poor feedback from some local anglers who say they are waiting a LONG time for replacements, Plus the fact that i ordered the new X6 box, and its nice to have things that match aint it!
At the end of the day you need to go around and have a waggle with all the poles you are interesed in. Its a very personal decision, and whatever feels right to you, wont to somebody else but dont let that sway your decision.
