The other thing to bear in mind is that, match reports can only give a very brief description of the winning methods. Imagine for a moment that the reporter has the right peg number, the correct angler (!), the real bait and the method used, they still cannot give you any idea about how the angler responded to certain situations that nay have arisen during the course of the match.
Did the angler stay on the same method and line all day?
Did the fish move up or down in the water?
Did the wind pick up/die down meaning a change to a heavier/lighter rig was needed.

These kind of scenarios and more are the reason a confident anger will not be afraid to give away some details. If they told you exactly how to fish your peg on a given day, you would still not be able to do it the same way they could.

And then, you could go to a new venue and fish a method or bait that the locals don't even consider and storm it.

But isn't that the beauty of match fishing?
