Commercials gets the thumbs up in our club as so many of us have been with the club since its launch nearly 36 yrs ago, so as youngsters we loved nothing better than crossing 5 fields sometimes without a trolley fishing a 6 hour match on the river trent and the long walk back some great sport, but as we have all grown older most members would not thank you for the long hikes as the benefit of the commercials is park and fish. But as you rightly say if the commercials dried up the we would all go back to the rivers and canals. But the pegs on some stretches of the Trent would take an eternity to get back to what they were, so overgrown. The revenu lost on the rivers must be astronomical.
P.S Gosh it's a long time since I launced a speed feeder across the widest point of the Trent, ohhhh those days all but a memory.
