Fraser River Valley Pre Season Fishing Forecast
With all of the negative press regarding the Fraser River Salmon season ahead, I thought it would be good to let my clients in on the facts and truth bout this year's fishery.
All Species Salmon Overview
While early run Chinook/King runs have been in decline for some years- some actions have been taken to protect these stocks.
We are speaking of the Chinook/King Salmon that run from mid March until mid June. These stocks are seldom sport fished by anglers anyhow and this closure will hardly effect our typical guiding season.
We are being informed that a “retention” opening is being seriously considered for June 16, and catch and release angling is not being closed at all. This is a RETENTION closure and will not effect our many great clients that practice catch and release on Fraser Salmon.
Aside from this there are NO OTHER CLOSURES being considered and all summer and Fall Salmon trips can be booked and planned as usual.

Chinook/King Salmon trips in the Summer and late Summer should be excellent this year based on numbers of fish in the parent years of this fishery. We typically experience good Chinook/King Salmon fishing from late June until the end of October. There are various runs coming up the Fraser and they enter the river throughout this time frame. On July 1st the Chilliwack/Vedder River opens for fishing and there are usually Chinook Salmon in the system at this time. We offer Walk 'N Wade, as well as boat trips on this river during July. These are extremely strong fighting Chinook!
Other Salmon fishing opportunities will be the same as always.
Sockeye Salmon arrive in the Harrison River in late August and are a great fishery. This is catch and release and the action can be very fast when they are on the bite.
We have a new technique this year that we will be trying for them, which will be done with 6 weight fly rods, strike indicators and tiny flies. It should be both exciting and fun!
In mid September the Harrison White Chinook arrive and they are brutes!

This year's numbers should be stellar and we have really started to find many different ways of catching these great fighters. Join us for the Harrison White Chinook action this year for a great adventure!

They fish well right thru early November.
Around October 1st , the large runs of Chum Salmon arrive. These hard fighting brutes are a blast to catch and we spend many days battling these fish till our arms hurt. Fishing stays strong for these fish well into November- in fact a late run of extremely silver sided Chums arrives in early November. While not as plentiful as the early runs, these “blackheads” as we call them are unequalled in fight. We had too many open days last November where myself and Oliver were not guiding but simply having the time of our lives playing with these crazy fighters! In our video section there is footage of myself and Oliver doing battle with these awesome Salmon, you can see Oliver has a ton of trouble landing a especially hard fighter! This fish had him arm weary for days (ha-ha).

There are very few anglers on the water at this time, while there are usually decent numbers of Coho to be found, and Harrison Sturgeon are still biting strong!
Consider this time frame for a great trip. We always pack the propane heaters, fire wood , and some stuff for shore lunches on our late fall trips.
Sturgeon Fishing Overview
Sturgeon Fishing is a season long fishery and great fishing can be had from as early as April right into early December.

Some great Sturgeon fishing can be had in the summer months with the fish fighting extremely hard in the warm water of the Fraser River.
A great way to spend a few days is Chinook fishing during the good tide and the rest of the day chasing Sturgeon. Another fishery to consider is “Night Fishing” for Sturgeon.
We usually launch the boat at 5-6 pm and head out to a few favorite locations to set up for the night bite. Some HUGE fish have been caught by us at night and we have all the equipment and know how to make this unique fishery fun and safe.
Give it a try for a very new experience!

Sturgeon fishing can be a great trip all on its own, many anglers join us for multi day Sturgeon adventures, hoping to hook up with one of the Fraser River's true monsters!
Lake Fishing Overview
Also worth mentioning is the May-June-July Trout fishing season in the Southern Interior.
We are fully equipped with Pontoon boats and float tubes to take small groups of anglers on Trout-fly fishing adventures.
