Default Tetford country Cottages

Just got back from a weeks holiday in Tetford (County Cottages) which most people from South / East Yorkshire will have passed close bye, without ever realising it is there.
It is situated in the centre of Tetford ,a peaceful village in the Lincolnshire Wolds,The 9 acre site has a 2 acre fishing lake, that is just for the residents use,(no day tickets) so there is plenty of room to fish without fighting for places,,the lake is well stocked (but not to silly levels) with Carp which now are in the 20lb+.Bream, Tench, Crusians Roach and Rudd. Very refreshing to fish a venue that is not a overstocked commercial,Very natural looking and really close to the converted Barn/Cottages,first time I have managed to get my wife to go on a fishing holiday but with Louth, Horncastle and the east coast all close by she really enjoyed it,anyway back to the fishing, started off with a bang landing a 14 lb Mirror on Sunday along with a good selection of other more manageable size fish.

On Monday hooked straight in to a zoo creature after a long fight (they do fight here) into the net came a 22lb Common Carp (my personal best) my wife took the photo on the wrong setting from the top of the bank,so the photo does not do it justice but there again I don't look 220lbs either but I am! That was soon followed by a 17 lb fish by now my arm was hurting,+a good selection of skimmers Tench Crusians and Roach + a couple of 8 to 10 lb Carp finished the day off .throughout the week I had about 25 Carp all off the surface nearly all to dog biscuit, a chap further round the lake was catching with luncheon meat in a curry type sauce,Really impressed with this place, very peaceful just what we needed ,would recommend it to anyone.

Tis a lovely setting as well.

I did feel i had my nose put out of joint though after fishing it regularly for over 12 years to be told to stop going.

Even worse to see the stamp of fish you are getting now :/

Enjoy

hi, mark Welcome (both to the site and to fishing again)
I think it comes as a bit of a shock to us all when we return to old haunts to find we cannot fish them anymore. But what we have to remember is that most fisheries are the property of someone else and they have a right to say who fishes them,
The couple who bought these ponds are now using them for the residents of their holiday camp only, and as they have invested many many thousands of pounds in this project I think they are right in protecting their investment, after all I would not want to book a holiday only to find no pegs available or if the best pegs were take by locals,
I holidayed here last year and the fish were in exceptional condition,I am going again later this year, there are plenty of exellent day ticket fisheries around your area Herons Mead and Saltfleet to name a couple,
some of last years fish.

Warden

Whilst i agree that the owners spent considerablly to bring it all up to date, imagine your favourite water for 10, 20 or even 30 years being all of a sudden out of bounds.

Its a damned hard pill to swallow.

As for Herons Mead or im guessing you are meaning Oasis near Saltfleet they are fine to fish but during the peak summer season (this is not meant as a dig at your comment) the holiday makers swarm all over the lakes making it more of a theme park day out.

There will always be fores and against both sides of this coin.

But i really hope you enjoy the fishing there as i know it is a lovely place to visit, in a nice village with a fairly good pub.

Regards
