Simon,
I have used bread up in the water with good results. I cut mine into 2cm squares rather than punch it out. I just squeezed all the air out, double it up and crudely stick the hook through. I have fed small bits of mashed bread, floating bread and expanders using bread on the hook. I watched carp take my floating bread and only hook 1 in 10 fish. But watched them scoff bits that have sunk without a care, so ended up imitating the falling bits lifting and dropping the bait. My hook rate went through the roof, they seem suckers for a bit of bread shallow.
I know Steve Ringer did an article in Angling Times called 'bread discs' which pretty much amounts to the same.
Neilio.

Ive watched paul newell at tunnel barn farm and like good methods he makes it look so easy. You think "i could do that".just looked in AT and i think he had about 170lb in a match this week, awesome. He told me he buys the bread at the end of the day[cheaper]from tescos and soaks it in a sack overnight. This he uses to feed.He hooks his hookbread a certain way that results in hitting most of the bites. This is where the hard part comes in.As for feeding i was amazed as the mashed bread seemed to land anywhere but he simply put his hookbait over the top of the feed. When i watched he had them right up in the water. As i said it looked so easy but he seems to be the only one getting results with the bread so there must be more to it than i noticed.Maybe some tunnel anglers on this site might enlighten us a bit more than i can as its a really deadly method for these f1's and it also seems to be a method less affected by the changeable weather.

I think he has got it down to a fine art oneabung. No one seems to be able to compete with him on bread so they carry on doing there own method whether it be maggot pellet paste etc.Tunnel barn caters for most methods, and the saying is do what you are good at.A friend of mine told me that he was trying to catch on the bread but as you said he couldnt hit all the bites. He spoke to paul newell who showed him how to hook it[my mate hasnt showed me yet]and his catch rate went up but he still couldnt get near him so went back to pellet fishing which is his forte. Its a shame that some other anglers who fish tunnel havent put in a few of there ideas, but maybe they are keeping things to themselves. As to your question about other anglers fishing bread,i cannot say that ive read or seen anyone else winning with bread at that venue.Anglers good at meat fish meat, pellet fish pellet and so on.The bread seems to be viewed as an old fashioned method and gets ignored, personnally i only ever use it on canals in the colder months.
Sorry i couldnt be of more help

What rigs do you use to catch up in the water?
Poly ball, bungee, or proper float?
