A floating bait ??
Does this count as a floating bait in your opinion -
Say you do up some maggots that float using a bit of the old coka cola ... no you couldnt feed these obviously - but if you put one on a hook you can get it to sink alot slower than a normal maggot would do... so is that classed as a floating bait?

no, it's sinking just at a slower rate. If it stays on the surface then it is.

We've had this debate before in club matches about fishing the open ended feeder with pellet or whatever but banding a dry expander as a hookbait and using a long tail to fish it at mid-depth. In my opinion to be a floating bait it has to float, end of, or even fishing bread in the same manner, if its not sitting on top of the water when your fishing it then how is it floating?

hi,as a club runner rules for each club are different,if it is no floating baits and you use your method on sinking a bait slower that is fine but if you have a carp taking your bait of the surface as it hits, this is classed as floating bait,as a min between hook and float is 12inches anything above that is classed as floating as your above 12inches,in water..also depends on club water or opens as if its a club water shorely your club arnt that bad,if your in a open match i would not risk it,people will do anything for a win..

How can it be sinking if it floats?if u put it in a tub of water doe's it float?Same as pop up's,if they come off the hook they will be on the surface,Many fishery's that ban floating bait's don't mean that at all,99% of owners don't have much clue .No surface baits is the term that should be quoted on rule's.I've had people tell me 1"below the surface is surface bait's,brain dead's, A 6" minimum depth rule will solve the problem of people mugging fish etc.

I grease my line up when fishing up in the water it helps slow the baits fall its essentially the same,
with a hook in the maggot it will sink show me a way of fishing that maggot effectivly without a hook
Its another one of those rules thats not been documented correctly how I perceive that rule is no fishing with baits sitting on the surface,

its when a fish swims slowly past on the surface and you drop your bait in front of it,I myself don't see anything wrong with it you still have to get it right.
A floating bait as to sit there on the top permanently to break the rules

I totally agree with you FORDY regardless of any tackle if you throw a bait in the margin & it floats then that's a floater contravening any no floating baits rule
