A few yrs ago i tried it and had some carp around 7-9lb. I fed
hemp and a couple of prawns and fished one big prawn on a 10 hook. Also dyed a few prawns red and caught well on those. Only fished them on the pole as they can be a bit soft for casting any distance although you could toughen them up by soaking them in gelatine ?? Cockles also good

Hi Phil,
I have used prawns quite a bit and have won matches using them carp and tench are really partial to them with Barbel also showing a liking for them. They seem to work best if the fish have not seen them much and as Breamster says feed hemp and a few bits of prawn.
I use a 14 hook with small bits on the hook as well as feed, I will say that on some venues they just don't seem to work.

Tried them my self a few times not much success. Spoken to other anglers who swear by them, may be it is a confidence thing.

A lad in our club used them and won the match ledgering cockles and muscles, that was at boldings in bridgnorth. He didn't feed at all just cast to some lilies and was getting wrap a rounds!

First tried Prawns about 2 years ago after getting battered at the next peg by a guy fishing them in the margins.

Since then had a lot of success using them and they have helped me pick up a few brown envelopes.

Needed a couple of practice sessions to get confident in fishing them and correct rigs etc.

I use a whole prawn on the hook. I use tubertini 175 Size 6, about eqivalent to a normali size 12. I use maxima line 6-10lb dependiing on size of fish and snags. Float wise I find a Karpa paste 4x12 is perfect, prawn is a heavy bait and i find a strong bristled float much better.
Elastic wise I use vespe solid size 16.

For feed i have found the best method is to solely feed corn although in the initial pot of feed i cup in 2 or 3 chopped prawns to give the fish a taster.
