Default How to kill maggots

Thanks everyone who posted on the 2 threads that were here earlier.
Unfortunately, I deleted them both while trying to merge the two threads into one.

Sorry

Feel free to put up your ideas again and I promise I won't edit this one.

My other addition to the original thread was to say that you need to add some cold water to the maggots before pouring hot tea or coffee onto them to stop them stretching, scalding and losing their colour.

Also, I freeze bags of 1/4 pint so always have some in my freezer to take out with me.

Now can I remember how many posted that the best way to kill them was to shoot them?

I often use dead maggots for Moggy fishing and around a gallon at a time. The best method for killing them in large quantities is just good old boiling water. Some lads I know freeze them too but this often just bursts the maggots as the fluid inside them expands and crystalises which by no means is a problem if the whole lot was going out in a spod or bait boat guts (liquid) and all. I've found that when I'm dabbling after work for smaller species that killing a pint of maggots is both wasteful and limits tactics. I'd rather be able to kill a small quantity and see if the method works and if not revert back to live maggots.

I've posted this method on other forums and it's much cheaper in the long run especially for match anglers as you only kill what you need!

Buy a can of compressed air! They are sold as "Air Dusters" or "Canned Air". These are sold at places like maplins or RS components for about £3. The can has a straw like a can of WD40 which you then poke under the lid of a small box of maggots. holding the can upside down a quick blast for about 10 seconds kills them all (less than minus 30 degrees).

Giles.
