Default quick question - maggots

I know you can stick them in the fridge, but can you stick them in the freezer?

The ones I got friday were already on the turn by sat morning and i still a far ammount left, I can not put them in the fridge, if I can not freeze them then I will let them turn to castors so I have a tub of castors to at the weekend.

If all else fails.

No problem putting them in the freezer, you will end up with dead maggots which can be a good bait, as they wont bury into the silt.

Personally if i purchased maggots on friday put them in the fridge an they had started to turn by saturday.
1) Id get me fridge temperature check out
2) id find somewhere else to buy my bait cause obviously its not fresh
Unless there was some amount of time between you buying them and getting them to your fridge ie leaving them in your car for a couple of hours.Fresh maggots should not turn in that short space of time

thanks guys,

as for fridges, it isnt possible, I need to buy one of those tiny beer fridges, as for another shop, there is two round here, both use the same supplier of maggots, on a thursday they are bought in, wether or not the maggots I got last friday were new stock or a week old stock I do not know, but from the state of them on saturday I can have an educated guess as to which were they. To think the week of tuesday the 20th may they had run out of maggots.

I currently store them in the shed, under a bench next to a wall, so tryng desperartely to keep them as cool as possible.

but you are right, if they were fresh they should not have turned as quickly and even on the friday i noticed that there were quite a few 'dead' ones, so like I said I obviously had the week before's batch and not the latest in, I dont suppose you can blame them, you want to sell off your oldest stock first so you dont have a shop full of flies.

As for what is left I have some nice castors, I am going to seperate the castors and hopefully have a few maggots left that I can kill off in the freezer. therefore when I get some fresh maggots on fri for the weekend I will have a nice assortment of baits.

Thanks for the tips guys.

well i checked them lst night and checked them this morning,

they are a good 95% castors now.

been reading that if you soak castors if they dont sink straight away they will do eventually so you will have perfect siking castors to fish wiht, if i am going fishing on friday, should i soak the castors overnight thursday or try and sort it and do it fri morning?

Used to use a bait fridge, not any more for maggots, just place them in a plastic bag squeeze out all the air & knot it, keep it cool & they're as fresh as when they went in. They look stretched but after a short while they come around.

when maggots are fresh they have a black food spot halfway down their body.
when they have used up all that stored food that when they turn to casters.
So when you buy maggots check for the food spot .

It's worth remembering that maggots generate heat through friction as they wriggle around, this means that a very full box will turn quicker than a half full box. Better to put a pint in a two pint box than to fill a two pint box to the rim.

Personally I would look in the local paper and get yourself a second hand fridge for 10 or 20 quid - will save you alot in the long run.
