Banded Pellets
Morning,
I was fishing a comp yesterday and dod ok but I was having a nightmare keeping the expanded pellets on the hook, I was only fishing at 13m and shipping out was fine it was just that the slightest knock and the pellet came off.
The fish really were taking the pellets so what I would like to try is banded pellets but am not too sure how it is done.
Does anyone have any advice on what bands? hair rigs, how to do a hair rig? I am open for ideas.

You just need to get some pellet bands in various sizes, put the band over the pellet and then hook through the rubber of the band, don't put the hook under the band.

I mainly use pellet bands for fishing pellets shallow, i've been shown by a few very good anglers that the best way is to do the following,
tie a hair rig but tie a bait band (whatever size you think you need) into the loop,
tie the loop as small as you can to the band to increase presentation
use a bit of trial and error as to how long you want the hair,
a good way of getting the hair the right length is to tie your band on (with an overhand loop). then put your bait in the band and start whipping the hook with the bait on, this means you can position the bait in accordance to the hook before you finish tying the rig.

The few times I have tried this I never had a pellet fall off.
I drill a 1mm hole in the pellet put the band up the shank of the hook put a baiting needle through the hole in the pellet and pull the band through the hole then let go
the band seems to expand and grip inside the pellet you can cast as hard as you want and it doesnt come off, this method does away with the band going around the pellet which I feel is a bit oiff putting

latex bands are the best as they are very small but can stretch to 14mm or you can use a 4mm on it and never hardly fall off only sometimes when i catch a fish.

I hook the band and just feed a pellet into it, simple and they never come off.

I'm with JC on this, the only difference I use hollow elastic instead of bait bands.

The best band on the market are Gardner latex bands 3.2mm I think and they fit upto an 11mm pellet, they are thick so you just hook the band and put the pellet in the band simple as that. The bands don't rip so they are very good and its 100 for £3

The Angling Times covered the best way to keep a pellet on your hook last week.
They took a dry pellet, banded it on a hair rig then covered it with some coats of clear nail varnish.
The angler made up a few hooklengths for when it eventually came off.
I might give it a go myself, but think the fish would have to be really avin' it for it to work.
Now where did I leave that nail varnish !

Thanks guys, I will get to the shop and get some and try them at the weekend.
Anyone got a preffered pellet? I am feeding 6mm at the moment (when they stay on the hook)
