Vitalin and skimmers
Vitalin
Has anyone used this bait that looks like muesli for animals and how or what is the best way to prep it.
My local lake seems to be reacting to the stuff and I want to give it a shot

It dog food additive used for bulking out the old canned meats, and the carp boys have been using it for years, scald it with hot water and give it a good mash up, might be a bit too filling for skimers on its own, proper slabs would be fne.

I have soaked some today to the point everything is soft but its a slop so if I add more vitalin im back to square one
I was wondering if I could now dry out the product to make balls with some brown crumb, or would that defeat the object.
one things for sure my koi carp seem to love it

For skimmers I would use it as an additive to groundbait, its full of corn and wheat, pearl barley etc so will be very filling on its own, heres a bit of info from Maggot Drowners site The Maggotdrowner's Forum - Vitalin, Is this rite ??

Justin, I use it alot in my summer method mix along with LAYERS MASH which is a chicken feed.
For the Vitalin you need to add the water slowly, put it in a sensas bucket and add a bit of water and mix - then leave it for 10 mins and come back and add a little more and keep repeating till you are happy with the consistency.... dont go mad with the water otherwise you end up with porridge!

I often use it in a floating feeder, whizz it gently in a blenda, don't make the bits too small, add whatever you fancy, I tend to add some ground pellet, fishmeal will also be fine, but not too much, it has plenty of flavour as it is.
Mix the night before, add in a little water stand and add a bit more water if you overdo the water it will turn into a useless clump good for pre-baiting three weeks before you fish. A drill is good to keep the mix light.

I did mill a load and added it to the mix and hey presto the Scots would have been proud of me,
Looks like I was on the right track from the off so Im going to start another batch for tomorrows match
Simon Layers mash second to cardboard is the best worm food you can buy

Steve the problem is its too hard in its regular form and I would say un edible for skimmers it needs some water to soften it before mixing it in
My aim is to put it in as it comes no crumb what so ever the problem seems to be getting the texture correct
It would seem you need to get it to the stage where you can still squeeze the water out without it clogging so a kind of cuppable ball is formed.
I have a feeling this could go all pear shaped by the morning so I have mixed up 3 kilo of sensas in the event of that happening.
Don't you just love testing things lol
