Default baits for great results ?

what would be the best baits for carp and bream, i use sweetcorn, no groundbait.

i have thought about using ground bait and boilies, going to see if i can aford a boilie roller and make my own, have some recipes for good boilies. but is it wirth it ?

would you reccomend ground bait. the places i fish arent that big. so ground bait might not be nessesary. but i am new to all this so maybe you have some good tips in this area ?

For me these days the number 1 bait has to be pellets and i tend to use the 4mm pellets more than any other. It will catch skimmers, carp, barbel and even roach.

If you want to save on the cash and make your own boilies don't bother with expense of the rolling table. Instead roll out the mix with a rolling pin 6-15mm thick and chop it up into cubes. Or roll by hand into long a sausage and cut up into barrel shapes. Boilies don't have to be perfect little balls, only if baiting up with a catapult or throwing stick at range. I would also recommend using a fishmeal basemix and fishy attractors bream love em. Fish alongside pellets you are onto a winner. When fishing for carp i often use scalded pellets moulded round the lead/method feeder and also a bit wrapped around the hookbait have had as many bream as carp this way.

Thanks for the input there. i was going to use ground rice, soya flour, and semalina for my base mix, but might replace semolina with fishmeal
thanks again

If your new to making boilies i would not bother making your own base mix. It can be tricky getting the mix to roll right and a lot of the time many people end up throwing more bait away. Better off buying a mix i can recommend the ming mix from the tackle box and dynamites scource. both pretty good fishmeal base mixes and reasonable price.
Let us know how you get on.

cheers for this steve75 and winkledean. i will look around for these and maybe try both and see which works for me at my local venue. i did however last weekend goto my venue and i had dog biscuits soaked in strawberry flavouring. and when i threw some in the pond to see what reaction they would get . to my surprise after about 15 minutes there were about 5 carp grabbing them like there was no tomorrow. now all i have to do is figure how to fish from the surface. i saw some people using bubble floats. are these used for surface fishing. or is there a better way.?

I would not use a bubble float. I prefer the proper carp controller floats. These are simply a dumpy float loaded with weight at the bottom and a swivel on the top. The mainline is passed through the swivel then you thread a small rubber bead onto the line and tie on a swivel. You then need to tie your hook link to the swivel i would normally use something like 8lb mono or flurocarbon about3ft. so its like a free running ledger rig but using the controller float instead of a bomb. I will soon have a step by step guide on my site to show in more detail.
