the only time i would fish soft over hard is when i feed micro pellets and fish a soft 6mm expanda or hooker to catch everything that swims basically my thought behind it is it doesnt take long before the pellets have soaked after you cup them in so by the time the fish get on them they are partly soft and if not they are small enough for any fish to have a munch on. but if im targeting carp and other species over a pound or two i will feed soft 6mm pellets and fish with a hooker at first but if i start to bag then ill switch to the 6mm banded pellet and start feeding hard pellets also

either way both methods attract skimmers and sometimes nuisance fish but the hard pellet approach is better for carp

to be more blunt pellets are a great all year round bait and either way you fish them cathces fish fishing hard over soft or vica verca will depend on the venue etc but theres nothing better than trying it yourself im just speaking from previous experience though

good luck

I like to use a hard pellet banded when fishing shallow or on the pellet waggler or feeder and a soft when fishing on the deck. I find if you fish a banded pellet on the deck you tend to foul hook fish as the whole hook is showing.
