Caster will go off if left for more than a couple of days - although I know some people freeze them I prefer fresh. The maggot will last quite a few days if you keep them fridged but depends on how long your tackle dealer had them before you got them... just keep an eye on them as they will start to turn to caster and at that point you can take some nice fresh caster off them by running them through a maggot riddle.

Once they have gone off you should bin them as they will stink and if you put them in your swim you are not going to catch a thing!

Your better off putting your maggots in a larger shallow tray in the fridge so they don't sweat and start to turn, doing this way the maggots should last a about 2 weeks, good enough for your feed bait ie in your groundbait as these maggots won't mve about to much

If you can do this then make sure you haven't got the lid on the box whilst in the fridge and should be ok for a week or so !

I was told a good trick by a friend who runs a tackle shop to keep your casters fresher longer

When you get them in the normal bag from the shop take them home and empty the casters out into your bait box take the bag they come in and place your box inside the bag. Take the lid and then put this on the tub.

This seals the casters airtight in the box and helps keep them fresh as it is the air that makes the casters turn. This has saved me a few bob over the last few seasons

To add to Smudgers advice, once i have out the casters into the box(try to get a box that they nearly fill), i then wet some newspaper and place on top of the casters, i do this until the paper is level with the top of the box, then put the bag over to seal, then the lid (putting the damp newspaper gets rid of the air, if you just put the bag over, they would breathe the air in the box).
