Richie
theres quite a few ways to prepare tares, but i find this way the best, turn the oven on 160 dgs, place the reqired amount of tares in a cassorole bowl, add a heaped dessert spoon of bi carbonate of soda, pour boiling water over, place a lid back on the cassorole dish and put them in the oven and cook for 45 mins. i normally check the water level a couple of times, try a couple of tares after 45 mins to see how soft they are, if they are still hard put back in the oven an check them for softness every 5 mins, whem cooked drain the water off them and leave them out side until they are cold, by this time they should have turned a deep black colour,
i then bag them up and freeze them.
Or easier way 1/2 fill a flask with tares, add a teaspoon of bi carb fill the flask with 2/3 boiling water and leave for 8 hrs. strain and cool off as above

it will be trial and error the first couple of times , but you will know when they are not cooked enoughed, they will be hard to hook, and you will bump a few fish , because on the strike the tare will not come off the hook. if they are to soft you they will not stay on the hook properly
so just experiment with the times i have printed above ,until they are right for you
