Red face Its Him Again ! ....How To Avoid small Fry !

Hi All, I Went Fishing for the first time today, and i know i should be grateful but i only seemed to atract small fry ie a few ounces, is this down to hook size ?, or bait or a combination of both. I was using a size 8 & casting maggot & corn, and feeding with pellets. I read some where that you should match your hook to the size of bait your using. Can anyone point me in the right direction. thanks in advance Bob.

Size 8 is a big hook, surprised you caught small fry on that especially using maggots, for corn and pellets try a size 18 or 16, maggots size 18 or 20.
