  1. Polluters to talk to anglers before deal is done under new Civil Sanctions regime

After a long campaign, Fish Legal has welcomed the Environment Agency's announcement that anglers will be involved before deals are done with polluters.

Fish Legal believes that "Enforcement Undertakings" (EUs) - one of a raft of measures introduced under the Environmental Civil Sanctions Order 2010 - could lead to secretive agreements with polluters without angler involvement where rivers have been damaged by pollution.

  2. Classic time is here at last!

by on 24th April 2008 at 05:27 PM
Well tomorrow I head to Birkenhead and across the Irish sea to Belfast, then up to Enniskillen and the first pint of the black stuff.

The Irish Waterways Classic fishing festival starts next Monday and has an entry this year of 255 anglers from all across Europe.

Past years the fishing hasn't been brilliant as the festival has traditionally been the second week in May and this has as a rule with global warming and all meant that the fish have spawned and this means ...

  3. getting ready for Ireland

by on 28th March 2008 at 09:45 AM
those of you who know me know how much I love Ireland. And this year I am going to fish the waterways Ireland classic in and around enniskillen.

The festival is a week long and this year has been brought forwards two weeks to start on the 28th April to try and coincide with the annual fish migration through the town.

I am lucky enough to have won this festival back in 1999, that year there were over 400 competitors, in the last few years numbers have dwindled to around ...

  4. Another win and learn't a few more lessons

by on 11th February 2008 at 05:41 PM
Willowgarth again this weekend and my second win in three visits! Will be getting to the status of venue expert soon.

I go to Willowgarth because I love the roach fishing there and anyone who knows me and roach - thats how I got my nickname in the first place by catching roach "One a Bung!"

Anyway, I drew in the corner and even the great Alan Scothorne couldn't win off that peg by fishing for roach so I made my mind up to fish for big fish, in saying that ...

  5. Willowgarth, got it all wrong!

by on 21st January 2008 at 10:04 PM
Went to Willowgarth again this week. Nice little venue just outside Arksey - near Doncaster for those of you that don't know it.

Its a silver fish venue with the odd big carp in it. Two ponds front and back - the target is big roach but there are also alot of small fish like rudd and small roach which you need to avoid.

Anyway making my rigs up the night before I fancied the back pond, there are usually more pegs on there so you have a better chance of drawing it and ...

  6. Off to Willowgarth again

by on 16th January 2008 at 11:53 PM
What with it being freezing cold and chucking it down all week I am off to Willowgarth again this weekend hopefully to catch a shed full of roach.

Last week was a disaster as the TA lads met up at Pine lakes near Thorne for another of our silver fish matches. Unfortunately being the match orgainser didnt do me any favours at the draw bag - I let everyone draw their pegs and I was left with what was left in the hat - turned it over and there it was lonely old peg one. Now I hear you ...

  7. Embarassing win on home venue!

by on 3rd December 2007 at 10:25 AM
Well then what can I say, got up on Saturday morning to bright sunshine. Totally against the forecast.

The venue for todays get together of the TA crew was Willowgarth at Arksey near Doncaster, for our silverfish match. The draw was scheduled for 8.30am so after a swift pit stop at the big yellow M too feed the fat belly I managed to get down to the venue at just after 8, and there were already a few of the lads in attendance. By draw time we had a respectable 20 anglers, not bad ...
