Talk Angling fishing chat and tackle advice » Blogs » Just sitting by a pond, my misadventures as an angler

A pleasure anglers perspective on life fish and everything.

I fish for the fun of it, well we all do granted, I dont use the right gear, I know that, my rod is a 'Lyon' carp rod.

Why? you asked, as it does seem an odd choice of rod, well, it is a two peice 12 foot rod, and it is a fairly old rod so if it got damaged it wouldnt be a great hardship to us if it did get damaged or bust, I can strap it to my bike and head of in the early hours to the ponds with out to much trouble.

No doubt in a couple of years I will have morphed into a specimen hunter or something. So while I mam learning new things everytime I go out fish I hope you will enjoy reading about my misadventures.

I have been very capable in catching birch trees and yew trees, a couple of wilows and numerous reeds and plant life so far.

Take care

Pete

Weekend - July 11, 12, And 13

Posted 15th July 2008 at 02:02 PM by sunburntarms
Friday after work was a wash out, apart from finding a nice little location to fish for free about 5 minutes cycle from Millbeck there is a pond which is 'free' to fish.

The ony problem I see is that it is over run with kids and there is so much litter and remnants of camps that sooner or later who ever owns the pond will fence it off.

Saturday the old man cried off at the last minute, 'I don't fancy it' ..........

Oh well all this bait and ground bait...

Record Breaking saturday (05/07/08)

Posted 7th July 2008 at 02:57 PM by sunburntarms
I get to Millbeck for 7.45, been thinking of the ‘one’ all night, dreaming of it, been awake since 5.30 and have the bike all packed up and my rug sack all sorted too, I go to the paper shop, get some snacks, I have had sausage and toast for breakfast and coffee, just waiting for a good time to set off. I set off early and take my time, it is a down hill bike ride on the whole also and only 5 minutes if I were to hammer it. The fishery doesn’t open till 8 am on a Saturday but I sneak in at 7.45,...

Friday July the 4th

Posted 7th July 2008 at 02:52 PM by sunburntarms
I didn’t post about last weekend, sat the 28th of June. I did fish, and it was generally ok, until a couple of lads decided to mess around and they fell onto my landing net snapping the pole and doing something so that the net was jammed on. Most likely cross threading it somewhere inside.

The following Monday I fished with my old man and after a promising start, till the old man turned up then I went quiet couldn’t catch a thing, he kept (three times) fishing over my line and tangling...

What a wash out, I gave it a good go, I lasted 5 hrs of constant rain then gave up on saturday afternoon.

I did find out that my wet weather gear is rubbish, and after 5 hrs I was soaked thro to the bone, cold and an hour or so from hypothermia.

So I have been revising my shopping list......

It stands at around 350 quid

Garbilino squad pellet combo rod - £50
Reel (50 quid max not found one yet tho)
Wet weather gear (wywoodrogue...

a touch of sunstroke........ part two sat/sun

Posted 17th June 2008 at 11:13 AM by sunburntarms
I was up around 3.30am and I was on my way to the FFA ponds at Roan Head I got to my favourite swim on High Pond, there is a causeway on High Pond I fish at a narrow point of the pond, again I see this as having a good traffic of fish running thro it, it is a good 20 metre's across from the bank to the causeway. I fish about 6 or 7 metre’s out, it is about 2.5 metre’s deep, so I bait up an arch as soon as I get there. Bung in all types of bait and ten rig up. I put a hair rig and boillee on the...

A touch of sunstroke......... (part one friday)

Posted 17th June 2008 at 11:07 AM by sunburntarms
I reckon I have had a little too much sun this weekend, I have added to my brown forearms, a rather brown neck, well 3/4 quarters of it is nice and brown.

I had a very bad headache and I was feeling sick all day Monday (16/06/08) so a little sun stroke was my diagnosis and a day spent in bed under the covers.

And why, you ask did I get a little too much sun?

Well another half day holiday on Friday and I was home at 11.35 am and grabbed the gear and my...

Weekend fishing.

Posted 9th June 2008 at 09:31 AM by sunburntarms
I am a pleasure angler; I have recently got back into the sport after over 15 yrs away. I have missed so much since I last fished.

My father once said a that he was going to sell all his fishing gear, he is 75 on sat, eyesight has never been good as he lost his sight in one of his eye when he was 17 in a turning accident and later in life he lost the tips of his fingers of his right hand in an accident in a paper mill. So with the on coming of many years he stopped going fishing...
