Hi Chris,
We had the pool dug out M8, it was based roughly on Meadow Pool at Heronbrook.
We don't have a shelf on either bank as it slopes at a 45 degree angle with a track , this is so the plants don't grow into the water but you can still fish across.
We have been quite fortunate in that we were able to get the water pretty much as we wanted it.We have made a few mistakes with it and we are looking at trying to change a few things, but considering none of us had ever done anything like this before we have got it pretty well sorted.
I think that if you get the right people to steer the thing and a decent guy who owns the land you can get just the same as we have got in a very short space of time.
We have also been working in close contact with the EA and they have been helpful on quite a few occasions.
If want any info let me know.
Mark

Hi Growler,
Why do you not think it could happen ????, there is probably more chance now than ever before as the farmers are looking to diversify and holes in the ground are an easy way of making a few quid for little outlay.
We had to ask our lads if they wanted to take the project on, some said yes and some didn't want to do it, they have left the club but I bet they wish they hadn't.
I know that if we had the chance to do it again we would certainly take it.
I think having the pool has been the best thing that we could have done as a club its brought all the members together, and now everybody has had an imput into what we have achieved and are rightly proud of it.
I know that its hard work but the rewards are unbelievable,we cannot get over the fact that our pond was first fished only last July and its producing loads of quality fish, looking at it now it looks as if its been there 10 years.
I would put it to your members and see what response you get, you never know someone may surprise you and tell you they know where there is a pool or some land available thats how ours got started.

Hi Markco,
Is this the old Tetleys complex behind the Birch and Bottle. If not , what ever happened to that.
there were a few Pops lads who were old members of Tetleys.
Myself, Mick Martin, George Douglas, Brian Austin. Mick and Ray Astbury and probably more who I cant remember
there were 2 pits when i joined and the following year a bigger one was dug with a channel to the middle pool.
There were some big carp in all the lakes and a large stocking of tench were put into the big lake just before I packed the club in.

Hi Growler,
I fished the Pops pit in Newton down the side of the fiddle ith bag pub about a mile down the road on the right in a field, alas its not there now the pit was filled in years ago by the farmer wanting more land. .
I also fished the Delamere pool just after the Pops got it also many years ago its now run by Prince albert I think.

Well we have had another match on the pool on Sunday and again its fished very well.
The winning weight was just under 28lb with very good backing weights as well.
There have been some very good pleasure catches again last week with 3 lads all having between 60-75 lbs on the same day and fishing alternate pegs.
The catches are being made up of plenty of tench but the bigger ones seem to have gone of the feed, the good news is that the carp have really started to have a go and there are plenty of decent chub showing from 1.5-3lbs as well as the other silvers.
There are no dominant baits and you really have to find what they want on any given day, this makes the fishing very interesting as you can get people catching on differnt baits on the next peg ask them what they are catching on and you cannot get a bite on the same bait.
P.S We had a visit from the EA on Sunday to check the licences, I am glad to say we weren't embarrassed.

HI Guys,
The latest installment of the pool.
The matches are really popular and we are getting really good turnouts everytime we have one.
On the last 3 matches the total weight record has been broken and it is only a matter of time before the pool individual weight goes, the match yesterday was won with 32lb and a total weight of 162lb odd we only had 8 lads fishing due to work and holidays but we had 5 weights over 20lbs with an average of 20lbs per man, the funny thing is that sport drops off in the middle of the match and then comes on again at the end, if we could sort this out then we would be getting well over 200lbs in a match.
This is our target especially when you consider that we have been to commercial venues and had a lot less than that.

Our last match on a commercial was 2 weeks ago and the total weight was only 120lbs and I won the match with 43lbs, this was with 15 anglers and it really reinforces what we said at the outset that you know what is happening on your own water whereas on a commercial you get the " should have been here last week it was fishing its head off and you need a ton to win on here and then you find out that you need to have the local method and yes you need a ton but the back up weights are nothing.

I know we have made the right choice deciding to take on our own water and I am now being asked why do we have matches on these other waters as they are not as good as ours.
The good thing is that we now have the choice and we don't have to go when the good venues can fit us in we go when we want to go.
RANT OVER.
Until next time when we could have some interesting news.
