Why is it when you add a picture to your profile you loose all your previous post total and start from posts 0 junior member?

i have signed up in a new name and have only just found the email inviting me to continue my old account. Because ive signed up in a new name ive had to start from zero posts. Is there any way i can have my old posts added to my new name ?
