Thankyou Lee, And all of you for your kind words, as you say, if others were honest, i may not have got it!
I now know of four fisheries nearby who have lost fish, two have confirmed KHV though the right channels, the other two havent told anyone!
So as you say Brian, we are possibly fishing waters that have it anyway, but they dont want to tell us for fear of losing customers!

You may do well now with a skimmer approach Pete! lol.

I appreciate the honesty in reporting a KHV outbreak although it is a legal requirement to do so. I accept there will be some unscrupulous places that try to hide it. I for one will not be fishing any commercials that have had a KHV outbreak and expect me to use my nets. Just because the fish have stopped dying doesn't mean the virus has gone. I always dry my nets but it only takes one angler to not do it for the virus to be spread. I agree it will cost a fishery money but whats better losing a percentage of their custom or providing nets.

The advice from CEFAS below is spot on as far as I am concerned.

The Environment Agency strongly advises that angling should stop on any water where fish are dying or showing disease symptoms - this helps reduce stress on the fish and may aid their recovery.
Once fish have stopped dying and the remaining fish are showing signs of recovery, such as feeding, then there is no reason why angling should not start again. However, fisheries that have had a disease outbreak should make landing or keep nets available for anglers to use on affected sites. This will reduce the risk of spread of the disease, protecting other local fisheries, and reduce concerns of other fishery owners.

Default KHV Barstons lakes

Hi everyone i've just received this so thought i should post it. This now for me should put a end to the debate.

Dear Geoff

Many thanks for your enquiry about the risk of fishing KHV infected waters. It has been passed to me from our customer contact team.

KHV has been confirmed at Barston Lakes and the water has controls on it that prevent fish movements off the site. KHV is a viral disease that affects common carp and its varieties when water temperatures are above 18 degrees C. It is a serious disease that causes severe losses of fish. However, there is no reason why you should not continue to fish at Barston.

The highest chance of moving KHV between waters occurs when fish are stocked. There is a much lower risk that the disease could be moved on wet fishing tackle, mainly wet nets. This is most likely to occur when the disease is active. Now that temperatures are falling this risk is reduced. You can also help ensure that you do not spread this, or any, disease buy fully drying your nets and other tackle before fishing another water. You should also always follow fisheries instructions for dipping nets before, and sometimes after, fishing.

Following these few simple steps there is no reason why you should not continue to fish these waters.

I hope that this answers your question.

Regards
Nigel

Thumbs up

Geoff;
Thanks for posting it.
My thoughts have always been along the lines you have posted.
Along with, as long as anglers dry their nets out after fishing and Fishery owners comming clean about having KHV in the first place.

regards
John
