Justin,

You really didn't see Monk Lakes at it's best. For some reason the fish in Lake 1 switched off which made things very hard for those pegged there. Normally you would be looking at a minimum of 50 -75lbs for almost everyone with around 100lb needed to frame. Just look at results on the Monks website.

I agree the aerators made a difference and was surprised they were left on throughout the match. this does not happen in opens.

I wouldn't say the lakes are peggy especially with the way Nick pegged it, if however every peg was in then like most places there are flyers, those around the aerators etc.

It's disappointing that you feel you wouldn't rush back to Monks as you've only fished it the once which is no where near enough to make a decision. Just look at Willow last year, the place seemed totally devoid of fish the day we were there, however, this was due to a problem with flooding, I believe. Previous results had been very food and matches could be won from a good number of pegs. Anyone fishing it last year for the first time would have run a mile afterwards.

If you can find a totally fair venue where every peg has the same chance of winning then I'd fish it every week, I certainly don't know of one anywhere in the South.

Vince Im not knocking the way it was pegged, or the day, after all it was the same for everyone, its a difficult place to peg for a team event and you had the best man on the job.

But the design of the lake makes for a very peggy venue and not the type of venue I like fishing, I prefere venues where you have half a chance, all venues are peggy just some less than others and they are typically the ones I choose.

Maybe the aeriators being on, kept the fish in the oxygenated water this would also add up with the wind issue those that had it typically caught. but there was an obvious drop in weights the further from the oxygen source you got .

All said and done I enjoyed the day, even the fishing to an extent 38 lb of silvers is not to be sniffed at, and if I could have done it again I would have nicked at least another point as I messed up the first hour or so working it out.

But as I said its not for me, I would go back for team duties and maybe fisho qualifiers but wouldnt go out of my way when there are far better open match venues knocking about, what suits some doesnt suit others I guess in this instance Iam the other.

As for Willow I know it very well and have kept up with the goings on of the place I think you will find the lack of fish there runs deeper than meets the eye.
