I started explaining the logic Pete and connection with Paul's, but decided not to! Looking forward to a friendly TA match next week!

My previous post was not a slant or dig at what happened in previous years when many matches were run, and supported by many of us, I recognise and applaud the efforts put in by those that organised the matches in the past and fully understand the frustrations of having to cancel planned matches through lack of support, but the fact was as I stated we had nothing in 2006 in terms of matches and struggled for support for the intersite matches to the extent that we only entered in one out of the four matches fished, that at a venue favoured by many of the members. If using the facility to contact all members is desperation and seen as negative and not to be used then we might as well not bother with any future intersites, but as I see it by using that facility we have got more members actively involved with TA than we might have done, hopefully they will continue to support the forum by fishing with and for us in future matches and become actively involved on the forum, I cant see where that is negative but then I could be wrong.
In terms of team selection I did not entirely select the team for Hillview single handily and sought council of several long term members of TA and the site owner and thought long and hard as to the method of arriving at a team before announcing those selected, the method of selection maybe right it may be wrong but the fact of the matter is that those not getting in were likely to be dissapointed no matter what method was used.

I have just read through the posts on here and I cant see what people are moaning at if there is a struggle to fill places in the intersites whats the problem with filling these places any way same as long as the matches are filled. I thought the idea was that we fish these matches to meet new people and have a good day so how or if they are filled is not priority as long as the people involved have a good day and enjoy there fishing..

The aim is to grow the site and attract as many people to it as possible.

The more members we have the more chance we have of filling teams.

The standard of the anglers that fish in the team is not important, the filling the team and getting a day out is important.

I did invite Perry and Mark to join the forum as we were short and now we have two more top anglers as members who are not members of any other forums, so we can all learn stuff from them. And I will continue to ask top rods to join the site - hope people dont mind! And I fully encourage all other members to ask friends to join the site.

As for picking teams and arguements over it in the future - I will have the ultimate say so as "team captain" (website owner) if there are any disputes I ask people to come to me to settle them. Otherwise I hope we can all live in harmony as this is one of the if not the freindliest forum out there.

As Leetwin says as long as we enjoy the fishing that is what it is all about.

Until there is an official rule out there about "numbers of posts" or must be a member for X number of months then we will not change our policy until there is such a rule and do our best to fill teams any way we can.

talk angling ?? its getting more like talk politics. organising anything is a pain but i would like to see venues chosen where additional anglers can be supported. and heres one for everyone to mull over why not make up a team (or teams ) from the anglers who want to fish but didnt get the call from their chosen site. surely this is better than turning people away

This is not a party political broadcast

Ct you are slightly missing the point, the intersite matches are for teams of ten changing the size of team mid stream is a bit like saying to Man U versus Chelsea to play 15 a side instead of 11. Lets assume that we can get a 15 a side team out what then happens to the other forums that can only raise the bare ten, because often that will be the case, the intersite rules were set up a few years back and to a great degree have worked, changing them would need the agreement of the other forums thats something that might be difficult to achieve.
In terms of getting a make shift team up to fill any void may be is a bit of a non starter, as I did post that AT were stuggling to get ten anglers and the opportunity was there for those not in our team to still fish the match albeit not for their chosen site, well surprise surprise there were no posts accepting that position, quite often the selected venues have additional waters that non team members could fish but other than Malc and Gem I have not seen anyone walking the banks come match day iis that not a case of match anglers not doing the pleasure fishing bit.

by-eck...........politics
can I just say that the emails were an excellent idea, and as already said, a great way of reminding folk who have registered then disappeared that we are still here, and hopefully they will become active members, which is what we need. And as already said again, don't forget, WE ARE THE FRIENDLIEST FISHING SITE ON THE NET

Thumbs up intersite

i didn't mean increase the team size but ask all those who wish to fish would they accept fishing under an 'all sites' banner should they not get selected for the first ten. all sites would probably have apool of 'surplus' anglers . i got a distinct feeling that the venue often has a lot to do with how many want to fish. there is talk next year of monks lake for the southern i bet now it will be oversubscribed. if you can accomadate other anglers you may avoid some of the selection problems. just searching for a solution at the end of the day lets get as many fishing as possible

whats wrong is that we must not forget that its about getting lads and lasses together as many as possible and encouraging them to get involved with the site in some way.

They then tell other people how they have made new mates through the forum intersite matches. When i first joined it was for information on venues i was about to fish but now i enjoy chatting and have become involved in the intersites myself ,Ive also tried to encourage other people to join and share information about venues and again get involved with the intersirte matches.

I now have a large network of friends from all over the country, and will be fishing my first intersite match in October ( THATS WHAT ITS ABOUT)
