Find out the methods used to catch fish, and ask who is decent using them.Or maybe ask who can fish for other sites, and dont mind fishing for another site and maybe reducing the numbers that way.

Cage fighting knockout championships is the best bet I reckon.

Failing that I think a Captains pick is best, but based on location as already mentioned. I think a random draw is a little unfair. If the team is picked it means everyone gets a go, and on the best round for them individually. In theory of course...

The only problem with a captains choice will be for TA members that he doesn't know. So fairly new members would not get a look in even if they are good match anglers. Also the idea that you must live local to the venue could stop some anglers from fishing venues they know well.

Even so i think the captains vote is better than a draw.

A way around this problem would be to have has many anglers has you want in a team but with the top 10 anglers counting in the match. This way every one who wants to can fish and the captains would get to know which anglers are best for which types of venues for future matches.

This idea may have been tried in the past and it didn't work but i thought i'd ask the question.

The whole point of having venues spread out across the country is to give everyone a chance to fish at least one match. Therefore it would seem sensible to give the local members first refusal. I dont believe we know what our best team would be, and although its always nice to win, the fun of taking part has always been the attraction of these events.
Personally I'm not really fussed how the draw is done.

royst, thats fair enough but being in lincs none of the venues are local to me so i would not get first refusal and if it is over subscribed would not fish in any of the matches.

Good point, hadn't thought of that. Perhaps first come first served is best

I agree with DNW, I'm a long way from all the venues so would'nt get a look in, but have fished all except the northern which is too far for me. Its unusal for us to be over subscribed. Any extras could always go along and fish for another squad as some teams are always short.

Kingfisher, I only asked the question because i havn't been a member of TA long and didn't know if it had been tried before, i just thought it would be a good way of getting match anglers of all abilities to come along learn and meet other TA members.

I used to be match secretary of a club and therfor realise the amount of time and effort and little thanks that is recieved for doing it. I have since changed jobs which involves shifts and overtime so i don't have the time to run a match.

So for those that have volunteered to run the different matches they have my appreciation for doing so and i would always go along with there rules.
