Default Southern Intersite 2008

After this weekend and also last years match at Willow Park it has been suggested we look for a different venue for 2008 as the fishing has not been up to expectations. A few anglers managed less than 1lb !!!!!

One suggestion has been Monk Lakes nr Maidstone, Kent, easy to get to, just 15 minutes from the M20.

The match could be fished on Match Lakes 1 & 2 and by pegging every other peg every angler would have loads of room.

For those that don't know the venue here's an idea of how it's fishing right now.

Todays matches at Monk Lakes fished very well, anglers using a variety of methods, paste over pellet, soft pellet over pellet/groundbait and pellet wag. Most however caught at approx 6-7 metres.

Top 6 weights on Monk Lakes 1 today.

185lb 12oz
153lb 4oz
129lb 12oz
118lb 12oz
109lb
105lb 2oz

Top 6 weights on Monk Lakes 2 today.

130lb 2oz
111lb
109lb
100lb
97lb
93lb

There were also excellent backing weights on both lakes with the lowest anglers weighing at least 35lbs.

Last weekend the weights were just as good with the following being the top 6 on Lake 1

133 lb 8 ozs
116 lb 9 ozs
104 lb 10 ozs
99 lb 8 ozs
98 lb 6 ozs
97 lb 12 ozs

The top weights all came at 6-8 metres with corn, paste or pellet and bags were made up of Green Tench, Golden Tench, Carp and Barbel (2-3lbs)

These sort of weights have been coming out for the past couple of months now so I think you'll agree any Intersite match would be a very good day out with everyone almost guaranteed a superb days fishing.

I am happy to pop in to the fishery and see what can be arranged as long as everyone is happy with the venue choice. I may also be prepared to run the match to give Pikey a break for a year.

Those are excellent weights, does anyone know the venues and dates for the 2008 intersite matches yet?

Chavender is still the overall co-ordinator and indicated that he would be putting forward proposals for who runs what and venues etc at the Intersite Individual match back in October, the past two years saw TA run the Midlands leg as thats where our stronghold is or was but it seems we might be asked to run the Western one instead, which is not exactly our strongest area members wise, but should Hillview become an acceptable venue I would be up for running it again.

Yes we could do with a few more regional matches - but that said there are enough problems running the ones we have now!

TA is running a match against Yorkshire Match Anglers forum in January - perhaps we should have a "Champions League of Angling" and have a few more site vs site matches and then rather than having to get every site to attend the intersites we could have lots of little challenge matches - this would result in alot more matches taking place as each site only needs to get a group of lads in a particular area to post up a challenge against the other sites members in their area.... anyway just an idea.

i like the sound of that simon that would be good

yeah ian 140 miles is not bad and it is a good day out i will go if im picked?
but what you got to look at is you need petrol for that 140 miles then your bait on top then you have to pay your fee for the match
after all that you are looking at around the £100pounds
yeah it is a good day out and you get meet the lads from the site and you have good fun but it works out to be a dear day out

yes it can be quite expensive petrol wise plus digs if you stay overnite last weekend cost me £230 for two matches at lindholme and i caught 2 fish one each day but the craic was worth the money alone. but i dont drink or smoke, my kids have grown up , my wife hates me so hey ho. the TA fur/feather was a 210 mile round trip but well worth it to see brian g,s happy face, and meet the brummies with their humour that was priceless i nearly fell of my box twice with the cross lake banter.so all in all i will travel 140 miles to monks if i,m picked.
