I'm afraid I have to agree with Larry on this one ................oh dear my medication must be wearing off , but seriously I think 'cheat' is a very emotive word and not appropriate in this instance as no rules have been broken.
As far as the skill level is concerned, I'm not sure, there must be some level of skill required to catch a big weight whatever method you use.
Cant wait to tap some of Rolfs 'biggies' on the head tomorrow.

We had similar discussions when the method feeder and hair rigs came out. People said that was cheating, because you just wait for the fish to hook it self and reel it in. Overtime we have seen that the method (no pun intended) is deadly in the right hands and it is indeed skillfull IMO.

What the hell is skillful about tapping your pole on top of the water. How about fitting electrodes to the end of the pole, giving them a blast and scooping them up in a net.

you might think its simple but its all in the tap some times they want a constant tap others they want a short tap a rest then another short burst, if u think im taking the pee, then you are wrong im being deadly serious! just like every other method you have to think about it!

oh and by the way people who tap also feed with catapults to get some actual bait round there float!

you will instantly attract the fish with a tap but you wont hold them there

what i dont understand is why your so against something that encourages more fish into your swim! when you use a pole cup do not hold it above the water making the bait hit the water with a splash? or clean your cup out in the water? this encourages the fish!

if its the actual noise then maybe ear plugs

Pole Cups. Thats another form of cheating, all bait should be introduced by hand or catapult, but that is far too hard to do for some anglers, so what happens. We put a cup on the end of our pole and Bingo we eliminate all the skill, that has taken hours and hours of practice to perfect. Any tom dick and harry can now compete.

I believe after reading this, that you genuine anglers out there will agree with me. Those that do not cannot understand the art of match fishing
