Default What price would you pay to fish.

Having seen the results from southern intersite match, it was obviously a hard match for some catching ounces and not for others. I also fished a match yesterday at hallcroft notts which was in sections, i had one fish for 4lb 4oz and was one of the lucky ones. I was feeling down after a hard day plenty of cost in travel, day ticket and bait. I was feeling down untill i saw the cost of the willow day ticket and thank god i don't live down south.

Know to the question i pay around £3.00 to £5.00 for a day ticket and normally the fishing is excellent, the day ticket at willow i believe is £10.00 which if in the mids/north i would never use. How much would you be willing to pay to go fishing and when does it become to expensive.

For a match I'm happy to shell out up to 25 quid, bait can be another 25 if you're on the rivers, 20 quid for half a tank of petrol, 5 quid fry up. 75 notes. Expensive game aint it!

Smilarly you can get matches locally for a tenner that you need a bag of pellets or half of squat for. 12-15 quid.

At least you can spend as much or as little as you choose, depending on where you fish.

If it's a league match, a final or the like I've spent around the hundred quid mark. My trials cost me around 800 quid for 2 matches... lol

Cool cost

willow cost me approx £150 quid i borrowed my mates van and it used £75 in diesel the cost of pools was £25 my bait bill was about £20 ( 4 pints casters kilo of worm although i saved over half pellets and a bit of meat) chuck in breakfast and a few drinks and it all adds up the question is to me about pleasure as this was a one off match . i met a nice bunch of guys put names to faces and enjoyed the fishing. personally i think the info was a bit adrift as middle lakes carp population emigrated to the big lake during the flood and we should have been told to ignore carp and fish exclusively for silvers. several of the locals fishing said there was only a handful of pegs worth targetting caro off now ! i didnt realise it was £10 a ticket we have got waters up here that will produce 1oolb in the coldest days of winter (hosticks) at only £5

I can see were you are both coming from has far as team match fishing costs go, i have been part of a team in the div 1 nationals and was fortunate enough to have got a silver medal on the Cam and Ouse and after all the practise etc we must have spent around £700 at least.

However, i am talking about pleasure or opens, when pleasure fishing on a comercial i think £5.00 is fair and on a river/canal £3.00. In an open £12 to £15 is the going rate, it just seems that down south £10 and £20 respectively is the going rate but who is getting value for money.

as complete tangler said, the day was very expensive. On friday before the match i spent £84 on baits etc. I enjoyed meeting all the guys but the fishing wasnt the best. I agree with complete tangler £25 is expensive (even for the south). I would be happy to pay around £15 for that sort of match but for a day pleasure fishing I would say around £5.

I can only further agree with what everyone has said, it was nice to put faces to the words!!! if you broke it down you had £5 for the golden peg, £10 for the day ticket, and £10 pools money, in my opinion i think it was dear for the day considering the travelling and bait. I enjoyed the days fishing, had a good peg but just didnt produce. Roll on hillview, lets hope we can do better there!!!!

With fuel becoming more expensive the cost of travelling to the match is becoming a bigger percentage of the total cost. Thats where the intersite series is good as it gives the local members a chance to fish a venue near to them. I tend to restrict my matches to a 100 mile round trip with the ocasional excursion further a field. The beauty of being in the midlands is we are spoilt for choice. Probably my favorite venue at the moment is the Riddings which is about 10 minutes away. .
In terms of how much I pay, usually up to £6.50 a peg for club matches and up to £15 all in for opens. If you compare it to watching a football match, £30 for 90 minutes of depresion then fishing is cheap.

The max that I pay for a day ticket is £17. (£11·50p for a 1 rod day ticket + £5·50p punt hire) at Old Bury Hill Fishery on the Estate lake.
I'll happily pay that for the quality of fishing available and the almost unique opportunity to fish swims that are inaccessible to the bankside angler.

Down here in the south anywhere between £6 and £10 seems to be the norm with regards to match peg fees, with another £10-£15 for pools.

When does it become to expensive? difficult one to answer, probably when you cease to enjoy it.
