i suffer from back pain so i have been using a preston pole support and just sitting on the pole my advice is spend a bit of time setting your seat box up so its level and your feet are flat and your backs straight as for treatment a heat pack and pain killers

Ive suffered for 20 years now and hardly fish in the winter due to the cold and damp. When i do i have to strap my back up with a weight lifting belt.I bought the wide velcro belts from car boots for about 2 quid each. Also try to catch as close in as possible, long pole work makes it worse. As above you must have a comfortable level box.Your trouble could be your back muscles,so keep them warm and dry,and a belt gives them support while you fish.

I know of a few top match anglers who carry small spirit levels with them and for one spend a lot of time gettin their seatboxes as level as possible.
The trick is to have your thighs also as level as possible to the bank and thats where a foot platform comes into its own.
If your bum is higher than your knees all the weight of the pole is supported by your lower back so this is the main one to avoid.
Try getting your bum level or just slightly lower than your knees and the weight of the pole is taken by your thighs.

its all a matter of getting your box as level as you can and the foot plate is one of the best things you will ever buy , sit as square as poss , the pole support, is a great bit of kit , if you cant get a preston one try the pup system . these stick further out from your box ,
