Default preston x3 box design fault......or not

i've just started replacing my gear after some scum bag knicked it and my first purchase was a x3 box. my prebvious box was a milo and the seat only hinged to 90 degrees so when i opened the x box to 90 degres and foolishly let go it swung down to a full 180 degrees and snapped the hinges that are pop rivetted to the seat.shit i have e mailed preston but as yet had no reply. i just wondered if there is something missing like a retaining strap or is it just a fault ??

I don't know why they build them like that, it's a weak point on any box. Even if you don't let go of the seat there is still the risk of putting weight on the upturned seat & damaging the hinges
My last box I drilled & riveted a short wire trace on the seat & box to stop it going back any further than 90-100o (so it stayed open but wouldn't go right over.... worked a treat.

Now I have the Preston OnBox x6 but daren't use the wire trace or similar due to the anchor point being plastic.
Also just bought the on box trolley (brand new off ebay) & am gutted with the design. You wouldn't think for one minute that the trolley was designed to suit the box, it feels more like you're making do with something second rate. The box is almost flat on it's back in the towing position & there's no room for a match holdall.... & I think it's fair to say the On Box's are mainly aimed at match anglers so I don't think it unreasonable at £45 to expect a really good innovative piece of kit... Preston Innovations indeed
If I get £30 back I'll be happy
