Can't believe you can set up a plug for me like that!
Check out my website, Neil Machin's new DVD was filmed at Heronbrook. Neil covers all your questions in the film, it will tell you all you need to know. Out next week.
I think you will need to fish maggots at this time of year and accept that some pegs will be almost devoid of fish. Neil told me he struggled in a match there two weeks ago, but as often happens in the winter, one angler was sat on them and had 100lb.
Probably best to drip two or three maggots every couple of minutes both left and right at the base of the near shelf. Look to catch on the bottom with single maggot or double fluoro pinkie on the hook.
Across, feed one swim at the base of the far shelf, where you will start the match dripping maggots from a kinder cup. Feed four or five after you hook a fish and there should be another one waiting when you get back over.
If you draw on the carp, might be worth fishing the same way but with corn. Try a grain first with no feed on your far line, if you get one, you can drip a couple of grains in.
Brilliant winter tip is: if you hook a carp, hold it over your main line so it stirs the bottom up a bit before shipping back. That will attract other carp into the swim without having to feed.
