Could be Bolognese rod maybe?

Bolognese rods used for fishing deep water with running line, normally about 6m long and differ from a normal long rod due to ring spacing and rod design, some were telescopic with just 1 ring at the top of each section (I think???).

It might be refering to the float that was used, as opposed to the rod a bolognese float is similar but a lot bigger than the avon type floats.
