andy i no what your saying but ur bottom the elastic out quicker but if the carp aint finished its initial run then ur going to get broke whereas a standad bung if you leave it run then it will teir out and then come back to you. If you try tightning the elastic quicker people say the fish will fight back harder so i dont get it.

its hard to explain the idea is that by using a lighter elastic it allows the carp to run then by pulling the bung you tension the elastic so trying to turn the fish if the fish turns you gather the elastic and pull the fish back so you can land it say a ten pound carp takes off on a 6s elastic you could be there for hours so the idea is to pull the elastic and pull the fish in

i converted to pulla bungs last year and love them. stay away from the milo go for preston ones better design and quality. i use drennan bungee in 6/8 green and 10/12 yellow for 90 % of my commercial fishing and find it cock on. reason i switched was i hit a double figure carp at messingham on my skimmer rig had it beat problem was it was wallowing about with 5m of elastic sticking out had to resort to handlining it in but when it gave a final nod it went round my platform and just laid there. went for it with my landing net and snapped hook length was the result. switched to pulla bungs straight after and never looked back.

I think what everyone is saying is that if the carp doesn't snap you're hooklength on its first run or two you then have the option to shorten your elastic with the bung as the fish tires. Suppose if it gets a second wind & darts off you can always let the elastic go again.
I fitted one last year but only used that top a couple of times & didn't need to use the pulla, so can't talk from experience !

Ive bin thinking about it and i get what you mean now and im going to swap to pulla bungs because things move on and uve got to move with them else you will never compete in matches. Would winder bungs be best suited for silvefish work with light elastics because as the elastic wares you can wind abit off and re-tie it ?

If you bought a 5m length of new elastic would you put the lot on the winder bung or just an extra meter or so ?
