Default Building a new fishery

Hi Everyone

I am looking to build a new fishery on the outskirts of Whitacre Heath/ Kingsbury, I have obtained planning permission for a pool 1 acre in size.

Would any insurance be availible to cover me in case of loss of stocks from disese/poaching/flooding?

Just looking for some ideas on what to do next? Anything that you would like to see in the fishery, Such as stocks, features, facilities. How many pegs would you put on it?

Would you have it day ticket venue with open and club matches? or rent it to a sydicate? How much would you expect to recieve from day tickets or syndicates?

Hi Dave! Just think of the SilverPool (Harry's pool) at Elmdon. There's a growing number of anglers who like a change fron carp puddles!!

Dave I dont think there,s anyone who will insure for the loss off fish.Pm NigelH he may offer some assistance he runs Barston.
Im in the same mind as Kingfisher to many carp puddles about not enough silver fish venues, fishing is about the float going under no matter whats onthe end

it would be nice to see a fishery with more tench and bream rather than infested with carp.tench especially can be great sport.

Put some toilets on it for the women anglers, there are a lot of ladies fishing nowadays.

Refreshing to see how many people on a 'match forum' appear to be fed up with carp puddles, thought it was just me & I haven't been fishing as long as most on here.
I too like a mixed fishery, if I had a choice I would like mainly silvers with a scattering of tench, bream & carp (i.e. bonus fish) just to make it interesting. At least that way you have the choice to 'go for broke' & gamble on the bigger fish later in the match if you know you won't catch up on silvers.

Maybe if new, & existing, fishery owners realise there is a call for this style of fishing more might be done about it.... I hope so.

I've never fished an out an out carp puddle as even with my limited skills it has never appealed to me to hook fish in an over crowded environment.
I won't even fish a lake if it's much less than 0.75 acres ish - bigger the better, give the fish a chance. I know sticking a hook in a fish's gob is not exactly fish friendly but that doesn't mean I don't think about fish welfare.... & lets be honest carp get a pretty rough deal in todays angling world, & not just match angling.

There is insurance, but its a waste of time IMO.
Disease is a problem, thats why you need differant species, so if one gets infected, you dont lose the others!
You should Know weather it could flood! If it does, you will need a fence around to keep the fish in.
And as for poaching, you dont just have blokes doing that, you have those black ducks, cormorants! and i think they roost at Kingsbury waters, and there another 1000 at the Trent only a few miles up the road.
My advice, is to have someone there eveyday, and keeping the predators off, and that includes dam seagulls, that take all your small fish. Herons, and grebs have a few, but the seagulls come in there dozens!

As for the water, if i was digging one from scratch, Firstly the excavated soil has to remain on site, and there will be more of it than the size of the hole, it is not viable, if you had to take it away. You cant build it too high either, or it wont hold water. A pool has to be either at water table level, or on line, stream fed.
It could be clay lined too.
I was once asked to dig a pond, i told him i could only dig the hole! lol.

I would have it deeper on the pole line too, so the fish are not out in the middle in the winter, and have some features in the pool, depths, islands, reeds, willows, lillys, etc.
Day ticket and matches are what you want, and dont have it silvers only, a minoroty want it silvers only, the majoroty wnat carp!

Come and see me anytime, i have plenty of ideas, and have dug my fair share of pools.
PM me, and ill send you my number, and come and have a look around Barston.
