Sadly, I expect he would be too self-deprecating and would be passed over in favour of someone like Paul Baggaley who, in my experience, is a business man and not an angler, presiding over a body that tends to jump off cliffs with its foot in its mouth (to mix several metaphors).

I bet at least 50% of anglers in this country have never even heard of either the ACA or the NFA. How can either of them, or a unified body comprising mainly them, represent all anglers?
I've heard of the NFA but don't know what they or the other bodies do (that's not sarcasm, I mean I just don't know anything about them).
Do you pay a subscription to join them ? & what do you get from being a member ?

Also, don't know Mr Baggeley so not aiming this at him, but usually when you take the running of something off people who are genuinely in it for the interest of whatever it is they're interested in... phew ! (in this case angling... ) And business people get involved, financing of the issues takes second stage to increasing salaries (Fat Cats spring to mind & they definitely can't be good for fishing !...b'bum).

Yes, it's subscription. They control match fishing and coaching for coarse anglers in England and Wales.

I expect Paul Baggaley works hard and demands a decent rate of pay, but I'm sure someone who is committed to angling might make a better fist of it. My dealings with the NFA have usually come down to money or bureaucracy or both.
Sometimes they give the impression they are in charge of coarse fishing, when they actually speak on behalf of a tiny minority.

This makes me sound like I'm completely anti the NFA, whereas actually I wish they could be the single body for the sport. I also know that they never can be because most anglers are not interested in match fishing and many more are not interested in being governed or represented.

800,000 is the number of households with at least one yearly license in.
Figures given to me be ad exec trying to sell me space in the EA magazine. Why would he undersell their position?
I expect that would give us a figure of about 1 million coarse and game anglers. Maybe a few more.
