If you fish commercials get rid of the top one, and elasticate though the 2nd and 3rd. Internal brushes only.

Fert,
It depends on what type of fishing and the elastic you are using.
I assume you're talking about match top2's and 3's.
Most of my canal tops are elasticated thru the top2 ( elastic's 2,3 &4)
River tops are 5-10 elastic thru 2 & 3 ( No1 section removed).
For heavier elastics ( fishing commercials) either use power top2's or 2nd & 3rd of match kits.

I read a lot about anglers elasaticating top 3`s but when you think about it ,the more elastic you give them the more they can run.
On my Maver power kits i just elasticate the power no1 section, which is approx 1.25m of elastic and i find this more than ample to bring a fish under control.
If you think of big fish like steam trains it makes sense, the fish takes your bait and feels the prick of the hook making them bolt,as the fish gets up more speed the more likely it is to smash you if your elastic bottoms out.
If you can curb the fishes initial run, i think you will have more chance landing it.

i have elasticated my top three's match kit straight Thought and i have had no problem's with it . and my top two kit the same i have talked to a lot of internationals about this way of elucidating . by doing it that way i have more control over the fish but if you just elasticate the top two of a match kit or just the top one of power kit, and you get a good carp on that steam's off it could rip them straight out.. i have no problem's with fishing that way but every one to there own...i do like the way i fish and that whats it all about being conformable with the way you fish
